Gandhi: A Libertarian Saint?

I was published at Mises Canada with an article on Gandhi and whether he deserves the libertarian admiration that some people extend to him.

In the article, I question the image of Gandhi as a libertarian saint. Gandhi is often celebrated for nonviolence, civil disobedience, and resistance to empire, but his politics and social ideas were far more complicated. I examine the tension between his anti-state image and his collectivist instincts, his opposition to modernity, his political use of moral pressure, and his role in India’s nationalist movement.
