A Glimpse of Today’s India

I was published by the Mises Institute with an article titled “A Glimpse of Today’s India.”

Writing from Bhopal after returning to India for the first time in nearly three years, I describe the deterioration of public infrastructure, the continuing dangers at the abandoned Union Carbide site, and the speculative enthusiasm surrounding Indian property and stock prices.

I also examine the growing divide between the small minority benefiting from India’s economic expansion and the much larger population whose prospects remain constrained by poverty, bureaucracy, inflation, and weak manufacturing. Despite these problems, I identify an encouraging undercurrent: the emergence of more conscientious entrepreneurs and people increasingly willing to defend their rights.
