I wrote an article titled “A Trip into Myanmar,” published in M.P. Chronicle on 17 September 2000.
In this travel account, I describe a visit to Myanmar under military rule. Beneath the apparent calm and order, I encounter restrictions on movement and speech, government propaganda, forced labour, corruption, and the absence of meaningful legal protection. I also reflect on the symbolic power of Aung San Suu Kyi and the regime’s inability to suppress the country’s desire for freedom indefinitely.
