I was published by Canada Free Press with an article titled “Come to Canada and Complain.”
In this article, I examine the tendency among some immigrants to criticize their adopted country while romanticizing the society they left behind. Immigrants can offer valuable perspectives on Canada, but those observations become counterproductive when they are used to demand that Canada reproduce the policies and institutions of less successful countries.
Using the debate over university tuition as an example, I contrast Canada’s system with India’s supposedly free public education. Much of India’s educational spending subsidizes a comparatively small group of students, some of whom later leave the country, while basic government schools remain severely dysfunctional.
