My article, The Virus in India, was originally published at Liberty Unbound.

In this essay, I examine the early days of COVID-19 in India and what the crisis revealed about superstition, institutional dysfunction, poor public health preparedness, and the fragility of Indian society under stress. The virus was serious enough, but the deeper problem was the social and institutional disorder that made any rational response almost impossible.
