I was published today at Liberty Unbound with an article on why India does not change, despite constant talk of reform, anti-corruption movements, and political renewal.
In the article, I argue that corruption in India is not merely a political or administrative problem. It is a symptom of something much deeper: a culture shaped by irrationality, superstition, tribalism, and a weak understanding of causality. The state is only the visible surface of this deeper social problem. Until the underlying culture changes, India’s public institutions will continue to reflect the same disorder, corruption, and medieval thinking.
