India: Poverty or Past?

I was published at Casey Research with an article on India’s investment prospects, reproduced and preserved at Proactive Investors.

The article was introduced by Dan Steinhart of Casey Research under the title “India: Emerging from Poverty or Stuck in the Past?” My contribution, “Why India Doesn’t Deserve Your Investment Dollars,” argues that India’s problems are not merely political, administrative, or infrastructural. They are rooted in culture, collectivism, superstition, corruption, weak causality, and the absence of philosophical foundations necessary for sustained economic progress.

I also discuss the signs of change: television, mobile phones, the Internet, rising expectations, and changing attitudes among young Indians. These forces may eventually push India toward a deeper social upheaval. Until then, I remain pessimistic about India as an investment destination.
