In this article for Liberty Unbound, I write about Japan, a country often caricatured for its stagnant economy, demographics, and supposed cultural oddities, but one that, in many ways, represents one of humanity’s finest accomplishments.
I discuss Japan’s discipline, politeness, cleanliness, safety, cultural cohesion, and devotion to excellence, and argue that many of the criticisms directed at Japan reveal more about Western ideological assumptions than about Japan itself.
