Is Singapore Right for You?

I was published today at International Man with an article on whether Singapore is the right place for those considering a move abroad, particularly those looking at expatriation, political risk, taxation, safety, and the quality of daily life.

In the article, I look past the usual clichés about Singapore—especially the obsession foreigners have with chewing gum—and examine the country more practically. Singapore offers an unusually clean, safe, orderly, and efficient society, with low taxation and a highly functional administration. But it is not for everyone. Its strict rules, social conformity, restrictions on certain freedoms, national service obligations for citizens, and growing tensions around immigration must also be understood before one romanticizes the place.
