Detained in Detroit

In this article for The Dollar Vigilante, I discuss my detention while transiting through Detroit airport and the increasingly abusive nature of American border and airport controls.

The article looks at the contrast between America’s self-image as “the land of the free” and the reality of arbitrary power, intimidation, and bureaucratic humiliation at its borders. My argument is that America’s security state has damaged not only foreigners’ perception of the United States, but also the freedom and dignity of Americans themselves.
