Musings on Investing

Superstition in the Age of Silicon

Here is a story of my Indian engineering college, which will be one of the chapters in my forthcoming book on the Third World:

On Investments

Shad Marquitz and I recently had a conversation about the following companies:

  • Granite Creek Copper (GCX; $0.04) is being acquired. The arbitrage upside is 18%. The merger should close later this month.
  • Nuclear Fuels (NF; $0.29) offers an arbitrage upside of 12%. This merger will close in September, so I am in no hurry to buy more.
  • Mandalay Resources (MND; $4.50) is also being acquired. The merger is expected to close early next month. Although the arbitrage is currently only 5%, I anticipate it will increase as we approach the merger date.
  • Irving Resources (IRV; $0.30) is drilling both of its projects, one with JX Mining (the biggest mining company in Japan) as a partner and another with Newmont and Sumitomo as partners.
  • Aztec Minerals (AZT; $0.20) is drilling deeper at its Tombstone project in Arizona.

Here is the conversation:
