Benazir: A Corrupt Legacy

I was published in the April 2008 issue of Liberty Magazine with a piece titled “Benazir: A Corrupt Legacy.”

In the piece, I discuss Benazir Bhutto, Pakistan’s political culture, dynastic politics, corruption, and the Western tendency to romanticize political figures from the developing world.

The article argues that Bhutto’s legacy should not be understood through sentimental slogans about democracy, martyrdom, or modernity, but through the reality of Pakistani politics: corruption, family power, institutional weakness, and the absence of genuine liberal foundations.

The piece appeared on pages 8–9 of the April 2008 print issue.
