In this essay, I examine what Covid revealed about the institutional, cultural, and moral differences between the West and East Asia. The contrast was not merely about public-health policy. It exposed deeper differences in social trust, self-reliance, discipline, meritocracy, civic morality, and societies’ capacity to respond under pressure.
