I was published in the December 2007 issue of Liberty Magazine with a reflection titled “Don’t Get Carried Away.”

In this short piece, I question the romantic view of Myanmar’s political turmoil and the assumption that Buddhist monks necessarily represent deep spirituality or a commitment to liberty.

I also consider whether democracy can produce a freer society when ethnic hostility, scapegoating, and social fragmentation remain deeply rooted.
