Europe’s Migrant Crisis: Culture Matters

In this article for Liberty Unbound, I argue that Europe’s migrant crisis cannot be understood without understanding culture.

I discuss why institutions, liberty, and social trust are not self-sustaining abstractions. They arise from a deeper cultural and moral substrate. When people from non-rational, tribal, or collectivist societies enter the West in large numbers, they do not automatically adopt the values that made the West free and prosperous. Culture matters, and ignoring this reality threatens the future of liberty in Europe.
