I wrote an article titled “Ides of March,” published in The Pioneer on 12 March 2002.
In this satirical article, I comment on Ashok Singhal, the VHP, and the campaign to build a temple at Ayodhya. I contrast the movement’s grand promises and religious rhetoric with India’s continuing poverty and its shortage of functioning schools, hospitals, housing, and other basic institutions.
