East Asia: Future of Humanity

In this presentation at the PDAC International Convention in Toronto on Sunday, 3 March 2019, I discuss why East Asia is likely to play an increasingly central role in humanity’s future.

The presentation examines the cultural, institutional, and economic foundations that distinguish East Asia from much of the developing world. It looks at discipline, productivity, social trust, education, and the capacity for long-term thinking—qualities that shape not only economic success, but the civilizational trajectory of societies.
