In this article, I respond to Arundhati Roy’s attacks on capitalism and foreign investment. I argue that success in one field does not confer authority in every other, and that India’s deeper obstacles lie in the corruption and failure of state institutions—particularly the public sector and judiciary—rather than in private enterprise.
